We have caught up with Jenny, a Duport customer and founder of Jennifer House Jewellery.
With her years of experience in some of London’s finest jewellery design houses Jenny is building an exciting brand of exuberant and unique jewellery.
What was your motivation for starting Jennifer House Jewellery?
Imagine this: You’re a seasoned jewellery expert who has spent years perfecting your craft, but you’re feeling stuck. You long for something new, something exciting, something that will reignite your passion for the industry. That’s when the idea strikes you: why not create your own business and infuse it with your unique sense of fun and playfulness? And thus, Jennifer House Jewellery was born.
At Jennifer House Jewellery, you’re not just creating jewellery, you’re creating wearable memories that evoke the joy and innocence of childhood. It’s like stepping into a candy store, where you get to mix and match your favourite flavours to create a one-of-a-kind treat. Except instead of candy, it’s precious metals and gemstones.
My customers get to be part of the creative process, handpicking their own elements to make a truly personalised piece that reflects their inner child. You can see the joy in their eyes as they carefully select each piece, reminiscing about their favourite childhood memories.
Is this your first venture or do you have previous experience?
Starting my own venture was a thrilling challenge, with a wealth of business-savvy parents and friends to turn to for advice. While none specialised in jewellery, I eagerly adapted their teachings to suit my unique market, eager to forge a path uniquely my own.
What is the best piece of advice you would offer to someone starting a business?
If you’re starting a business, soak up every scrap of knowledge you can on SEO, marketing, finance and other critical areas, even if they’re not your direct responsibility. Become a master of all trades and jack of none, and outsource any tasks that aren’t your forte. This way, you can spend your precious time doing what you do best, driving your business forward, and taking the world by storm.
Do you have any top tips for starting a business in your specific industry?
Starting a business in the jewellery world is no mean feat; it’s a competitive and crowded market. So it’s vital to know your unique selling point inside and out. Be ready for setbacks, but don’t let them get you down – stay tough, stay focused, and with persistence, your dreams will come to fruition.
What do you find is the most successful form of marketing? For me, word of mouth is the ultimate marketing; when people see my jewellery on others and get inspired, that’s pure magic!
How did you build your customer base?
My customer base has grown by leaps and bounds, thanks to the magic of word of mouth and doing shows. There’s nothing quite like seeing the sheer delight on people’s faces as they experience the vivid colours, glittering gemstones, and unparalleled quality of my jewellery up close and personal. And always expect the unexpected; you never know when chance encounters might lead to exciting new opportunities. I never leave home without my trusty business cards, ready to seize the moment and make my mark.
