An inspiration journey made possible by Jennifer Mensah’s determination, resilience, and the power of self-belief, with a little support from Purple Shoots.
Jennifer’s journey began when she fled a history of abuse and sought asylum in the UK in 2013. Despite now facing significant uncertainty and hardships, Jennifer always maintained a strong mindset to work. Having successfully run her own business in her home country of Ghana Jennifer was determined to recreate that success in her new environment. Despite the language barriers and the challenges associated with finding employment, Jennifer’s passion and drive remained undiminished.
One significant hurdle Jennifer encountered was the inability to secure support from the British Business Bank, which appears to be becoming increasingly risk averse. Despite her entrepreneurial experience in Ghana and a clear business plan, Jennifer’s aspirations were met with disappointment. However, in this moment of setback, Purple Shoots recognised Jennifer’s potential and readily stepped in to provide the support she needed.
Dedicated to empowering individuals through self-employment and entrepreneurship, Purple Shoots saw Jennifer’s resolve, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit. Purple Shoots recognised the potential value Jennifer could bring to her new community by providing Afro-Caribbean foodstuff that was currently inaccessible or required travelling to neighbouring cities. Purple Shoots believed in Jennifer’s potential and embraced the opportunity to support her on her journey.
With Purple Shoots by her side, Jennifer’s dream of starting her new food business began to take shape. Equipped with her previous experience in Ghana and an innate understanding of her community’s needs, Jennifer has embarked on a mission to provide a range of Afro-Caribbean foodstuff. By sourcing and delivering the right goods directly to her community, Jennifer aimed to create accessibility and convenience for her customers, eliminating the need for them to travel elsewhere.
Jennifer’s determination and resourcefulness, along with the support of Purple Shoots, has meant she has begun to create a better future for herself and her community. This entrepreneurial venture not only provides a valuable service but also serves as an inspiration to others facing similar challenges. Jennifer’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of entrepreneurship, but also a reminder that with the right support, passion, and determination anyone can overcome obstacles and shape their destiny.
